For the past few weeks I have been helping a sweet friend update her dining room. The difference is quite dramatic.
The photo on the left shows the before shot: chocolate brown walls, brown hardwood floors, and brown wood furniture. The furniture was on loan from her grandmother until she could find something that she wanted to buy. All of the new furniture, with the exception of the settee, was purchased second hand and repainted. The chairs were a lovely brown with floral upholstery.
Chair seats and joints were numbered to make re—assembly easier.
All loose joints were glued and clamped to dry.
Everything was given a fresh coat (or five) of paint and glaze.
We decided to add a dark edge to provide an added detail to the table top.
Because we could not find a suitable used settee, we purchased a new one and painted it to match the chairs.
I happened to run across a pair of lamps for the buffet.
I really like the crackle finish.
This little tea caddy shaped box was painted and glazed in the dark accent color.
Thankfully, everyone involved in the project was pleased with the results! Thanks, NP, for giving me artistic liberty!
I’ll be joining Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch and Wow Us Wednesday at Savvy Southern Style.
I've had several emails regarding the new color of the walls. It is Svelte Sage by Sherwin Williams.
Absolutely GORGEOUS Pat!! I love the colors you chose! Martina
ReplyDeleteFound you at BNOP. This is a very pretty dining space. I love the dark edge you added to the table. It's the details that count!

ReplyDeleteThe lamps came from a resale store and unfortunately I can't remember the name of it! It is a store that I occasionally pop through when I pass by!

ReplyDeleteAnother new follower from Savvy Southern Style. Love the transformation!! Especially the DR table & chairs! I am in the process of painting ours now using ASCP & then glazing & can only pray mine turns out half as good as yours!! Can you share the color of paint & glaze that you used? I LOVE it!!! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteI chose not to use ASCP since I was not distressing these pieces and because I did not want to use wax. I used Valpar White (not brilliant white) in satin finish. I did lightly sand before applying my Zinser water based primer first. Then the Valspar white. Then I used Miniwax American Walnut stain which I brush on then wipe off until I get the look I'm looking for. The accent color on the table was also Valspar, I think the color was Porchini(I don't have immediate access to that color card). The accent color on the table was put on before the stain. For the tabletop only, since it would be exposed to water possibly, I did apply a coat of satin polyurethane.

Thanks so very much, Pat. I just love how yours turned out!! I minimally distressed & using Valspar glaze. We are sanding the table top & doing a Walnut stain. After glazing the chairs & table legs, I plan to use clear wax to seal. Hoping & praying mine turns out half as good as yours!!! Thanks again for sharing your colors! Blessings, Kathy
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! Could you share the settee information. I would love something like that for my kitchen
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I don't have any info on the settee. It was purchased at a local shop; it was the only one they had, and had no manufacturer's marks. I am suspicious that it was a closeout.
